Chet Wydrzynski has spent his entire career exclusively practicing insurance defence litigation. Before joining Dolden Wallace Folick LLP, in 2017, Chet was a partner at a litigation boutique representing both domestic and foreign insurers, with an emphasis on the London Market.
Chet obtained his law degree from the University of Ottawa in 2003. He then became a member of the Bar of Ontario in 2004. Prior to law school, he graduated from the University of Windsor, completing a Bachelor of Arts (History) in 1998.
Chet has significant experience in the areas of occupiers’ liability, liquor liability, sports and recreation, professional negligence, and employment practices liability. Chet is an experienced trial lawyer, having taken both jury and non-jury matters to verdict.
Liquor Liability Defence
Chet has been appointed as counsel for all manner of bars, taverns, and nightclubs, as well as acting as counsel in multiple trials. He has defended all types of claims against commercial hosts including over-service allegations, forcible ejection, and improper maintenance. Chet has also defended establishments and tavern owners against Liquor License Act charges.
Chet often speaks to both insurers and insureds about liquor liability, and was the Chairperson of the Canadian Defence Lawyers conference on Commercial Host Liability.
Sports and Recreation Liability Defence
Chet has represented a variety of sports organizations, from recreational participants to the National Team level. Entities he has defended include martial arts studios, rock climbing facilities, and sports’ governing bodies.
Security Industry Liability Defence
Chet has acted as defence counsel for a number of security companies. He has defended claims involving excessive force, theft, arson, improper monitoring of alarm systems, and improper maintenance.
Professional Negligence Liability Defence and Coverage
Chet has acted as defence of professionals in various disciplines including mortgage brokers, insurance brokers, and architects. He also is regularly asked for coverage opinions on E&O policies.
Employment Practice Liability Defence and Coverage
Chet routinely defends entities and management on a large number of EPL forms against a variety of allegations, including harassment, defamation, and punitive claims. He also provides coverage opinions to insurers on EPL policies.
Construction and Property Defence and Coverage
Chet has been appointed to defend a diverse selection of contractors and sub-contractors in various construction disputes. He also has defended first-party claims against insurers in cases of fraud, exaggerated claims, and arson. Also, Chet is regularly asked to given coverage opinions on both commercial and homeowners’ policies.
