Mia Taghizadeh joined the firm’s Vancouver office in 2018 and her practice encompasses a broad range of insurance related matters. She has significant experience in the areas of bodily injury claims, occupiers’ liability, sports and recreation liability, professional negligence and insurance coverage. Mia has regularly appeared before the British Columbia Supreme and Provincial Courts.
Mia was called to the bar in 2014 after completing her articles with a large regional firm, and then worked as in-house counsel providing advice to a large transportation/recreation company on liability and regulatory risk management strategies, before re-entering private practice.
In law school, Mia competed in the Canadian Corporate and Securities Moot Competition, and won numerous awards including the Diane Kilpatrick Memorial Scholarship in Law, a Law Foundation Award, the McMillan LLP Scholarship, and the Chief Justice Allan McEachern Entrance Scholarship. Mia was also awarded the FMC First Year Fellowship in Business Law, which included a research role with a UBC property law professor on matters of land title insurance.
Originally from Tehran, Iran, Mia also speaks Farsi. Outside of work Mia enjoys supporting worthy causes. She sits on the board of directors of a number of organizations including the West Coast Legal Education and Action Fund (“LEAF”) which strives to advance gender equality in the law.
